Rant of the Month
There were two essential reasons given for going after Saddam Hussein:
weapons of mass destruction (which is now a tired old cliche) and his connection
to 9/11. Well, it turns out not only that both were bullshit, but that
hte Bush administration KNEW that both were bullshit. The intelligence
community wouldn't stand behind either claim, but the Bushies sure did,
even sending poor Colin Powell to the United Nations to shred his credibility,
something he now deeply regrets.
Finally, after enough prodding, even Dick Cheny had to admit, there's
no evidence tying Hussein to 9/11. He even admitted to this in a televised
debate with John Edwards in 2004. Of course, two days later he repeated
the lie about the connection. BUSH HIMSELF was forced to admit there was
no connection. But then the Iraq war really started to take a shit, and
throughout the entire summer of 2007, Bush and Cheney are once again flogging
the whole "Saddam and Al Qaeda" connectino that never existed. They point
to thte fact that thre are factions inside Iraq now that call themselves
Al Qaeda, and this is there evidence for a PAST connection, none of which
makes sense, and none of which cancels what we already knew to be true.
Idiots like those at Fox "News" also repeat this lie, forgetting what truths
have already been exposed.
Why doesn't the media call bullshit on these assholes more often? They
lie whenever it suits their purposes. One can only hope that the next occupants
of the White House aren't lying weasels like this crew. One can only hope.
Previous Rant: Too many boo-boos
at Virginia Tech
First things first. If a nutjob wants to get into ANYPLACE, he can.
If he's got weapons, watch out. The only way to avoid that stuff is to
lock down everything to the point where nobody can get at anything. Look
at airline security. Americans want convenience and openness over security.
So don't blame the university.
It's too easy to get guns. Existing background check requirements, thanks
to the NRA, are wholly inadequate. And NO, the answer to gun violence is
NOT to arm everybody in the world. Especially in Virginia, where the requirements
you have to meet for concealed carry are ludicrous. They might as well
make it a height requirement, like a carnival ride. Newt Gingrich and Tom
DeLay, the most idiotic of Republicans, support arming students.
Gingrich goes on to blame "liberalism" for the VA Tech shootings. Huh?
Wasn't it the fault of a nutcase who had easy access to guns and ammo?
Once again, the news guys and countlesss others trotted out the old
hack lines about "closure" and "healing." Hell, they started doing that
TWO DAYS after the shootings. It's never too early to recycle your lines,
apparently. There's no closure and no healing, only the lessons we hopefully
learn. In this instance, the lessons involve GUNS.
Before the shooter was even identified, some assholes had already parked
websites with names related to the inevitable lawsuits. Un-freaking-believable.
A week after the terrible event, one last trivial thing: at different
ceremonies, people at the campus released balloons. Sorry, but that's a
lousy idea. Virginia is one of the many states where this is ILLEGAL. It's
dangerous to wildlife. Seabirds are especially vulnerable.

Why does Bush only hire MORONS?
George W. Bush is a bonehead. It goes without saying. But let's say
it again. He's a bonehead. So it stands to reason that he would surround
himself with people smarter than himself. But the problem there is, because
he's so easily led by the nose, he's allowed these people, with pride bigger
than their brains, to cause problems. Pure ego, hubris, has wrecked
them all.
Alberto Gonzales totally fries the Department of Justice. Either he
was too stupid to know what was going on and should therefore be fired,
or he knew EXACTLY what was going on and should therefore be fired. Dick
Cheney, like Gonzales, totally politicized something (the Iraq war) that
should have called only for qualified individuals, regardless of affiliation,
thereby screwing the pooch. Paul Wolfowitz helped push the USA to war with
Iraq, architected a disaster, got promoted to head the World Bank, screwed
THAT up, then refused to step down when practically the entire world was
calling for his head. Don Rumsfeld ignored ALL advice on how to wage war
and keep the peace in Iraq, and when things happened exactly the way they
were predicted, Bush kept him in place until he lost control of Congress.
Condi Rice ignored numerous warnings about imminent attacks on U.S. soil,
and when she presided over the worst security blunder since Pearl Harbor,
she got promoted to Secretary of State, and presided over a disastrous
foreign policy that resulted in the entire world hating the USA. Can Bush
hire ANYBODY correctly?

The firings of the U.S. attorneys only confirms
what we've all known for years: the Bush administration lies like hell
about EVERYTHING. You can't believe a goddamn thing they say.

they were executed

and SO ON.
We now know that Karl Rove and others in the White
House conspired to leak Plame's name. We know that intelligence was deliberate
manipulated to build the case for war.
Now we know that Alberto Gonzales knew of the
proposed firings years before he first claimed; we know the the idea did
NOT originate with Harriet Miers after all; we know that Republican lawmakers
DID put pressure on to fire attorneys who didn't investigaet Democrats
fast enough; we know that Karl Rove DID stick his nose into it; we know
that Karl Rove just about GUARANTEED a GOP congressman that a particular
attorney would get fired; we know that one guy got fired in Arkansas just
so a buddy of Rove's could take the job.
WHY can't these people tell the truth? Why
are they forever covering their asses? Why is the evil Rove still part
of the White House staff? Why does Alberto Gonzales still have a job? WHY
is it that the American people don't trust Bush and his team any more than
other countries do? Why is this guy the best that the mouth-breathing evangelicals
and ultra-conservatives could cook up and stick us with?

I am a patriot. I am an American who loves his
country. I have a set of balls. I have personally, bare-handedly caught
a burglar. I have personally knocked around gang members hanging around
at my local park. I take no shit from anybody.
And I think Bush and his policies are totally
screwed. I'm sick and tired of assholes like Bush and Rumsfeld and Cheney
claiming that people who don't line up behind their incompetent decisions
are afraid, or unpatriotic. F**k them. This is a sleazy, Rove-style trick:
to paint anybody who doesn't go along with the utter stupidity of this
administration as somehow a traitor. THEY are the traitors.
They have consistently lied to the American people.
They have made one dumb decision after another. They have chronically,
relentlessly changed the laws to favor the rich over the poor and middle
class. They have broken the laws of the nation, they have ignored laws
they didn't like, they have violated the Constitution repeatedly, they
have failed to enforce the laws of the land when doing so would have hurt
the interests of their rich friends.
This is government OF the rich, FOR the rich.
Why the hell the USA went into Iraq, we'll never know for certain. It certainly
wasn't for the reasons Bush and Cheney have given. When this sad, sorry-ass
administration comes to an end, I hope somebody investigates the shit out
of them.
